An experiment run by Royal DSM creates a material of extraordinary strength.
1970s
DSM patents a gel spinning process for making the world’s strongest fiber.
1980s
DSM commercializes this fiber under the brand name Dyneema®.
1990s
Dyneema® is developed for applications including mooring lines, aquaculture nets, cut-resistant gloves, and protective body armor.
2000s–2010s
Technology innovations deliver performance breakthroughs across industries and applications.
2022
Avient acquires Dyneema® for its sustainable materials portfolio.
